01 · The label

What an AI label remover actually removes.

An AI label is a notice a social platform shows next to a post: “AI info” on Instagram and Facebook, “AI-generated” on TikTok, “Made with AI” on X, “AI modified” on Pinterest, the CR badge on LinkedIn. The notice itself lives on the platform. What very often decides whether it appears is inside the file you upload: a tag written into the photo or video that says AI was involved in making it.

Those tags come in a few standard forms. C2PA Content Credentials are a signed record of how a file was made and edited. An IPTC digital source type, stored in XMP, can declare an image “trainedAlgorithmicMedia” when a model generated it, or “compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia” when AI was used to edit a real photo. Platforms read these at upload because they are designed to be read.

An AI label remover works on that layer, before the file ever reaches the platform: it finds the AI tags and removes them, so the export you post no longer declares itself AI-made. An AI label cleaner does the same job with a wider brief, because the blocks that carry AI tags also carry the location a photo was taken, the device, the dates and the software that touched it. Removing the tag and cleaning the rest is one pass.

02 · Real photos

Why a real photo ends up with an AI tag.

Most people who go looking for an AI tag remover did not generate anything. They took a photo, then used a Generative Fill patch in Photoshop, an AI background swap, an AI denoise or a quick retouch in ChatGPT, and the export came out carrying a declaration about that step. OpenAI adds C2PA to images created and edited in ChatGPT, and Photoshop writes Content Credentials once a generative feature has been used.

The declaration describes an editing step, but the label a platform shows cannot say how small that step was. Meta changed its wording from “Made with AI” to “AI info” in 2024 after photographers complained that minor edits were getting the same label as fully generated images. A real portrait with one retouched blemish and an invented scene can carry the same kind of tag.

03 · By platform

The AI label on each platform, and what it reads.

Each platform names its label differently and reads different signals, so each has its own page: the Instagram AI label remover for AI info on posts, Stories and Reels, the Facebook AI label remover for the older Made with AI wording, TikTok's AI-generated label, Made with AI on X, the LinkedIn CR badge and Pinterest's AI modified tag.

  • Instagram and Facebook: “AI info”Meta reads industry-standard indicators such as C2PA and IPTC, plus the disclosure you choose when posting. Edited content now shows it in the post menu; generated content shows it on the post.
  • TikTok: “AI-generated”Applied from your own disclosure, TikTok's AI effects, or automatically, including from Content Credentials in videos made elsewhere.
  • X: “Made with AI”A disclosure you can switch on yourself, and an automatic label reported to follow C2PA metadata in the upload.
  • LinkedIn: the CR badgeShown on media carrying Content Credentials. Clicking it reveals the tool used, when, and whether AI was involved.
  • Pinterest: “AI modified”Drawn from IPTC metadata, Pinterest's own classifiers and information from the person who posted.
04 · Remove and clean

Remove the AI tag, clean everything else with it.

The check at the top of this page reads the file you give it and reports what is there before anything changes: an AI source declaration, a C2PA manifest, private details such as GPS coordinates, or nothing worth removing. Cleaning then removes the supported C2PA, XMP, IPTC and EXIF blocks and checks the result again, so what you download has been verified rather than assumed.

The image and video data are not re-encoded, so there is no second round of compression and no quality lost. What goes is the information attached to the picture, which is also why it is worth keeping your original: the same blocks can hold a caption, a copyright line or an orientation flag you may want in your own library.

  • C2PA Content CredentialsThe signed record of how the file was made and edited, including AI steps.
  • XMP and IPTCWhere the digital source type lives, the field that declares a file AI-generated or AI-edited.
  • EXIFCamera, software, dates and GPS location: not an AI tag, but rarely something to publish.
05 · How to

How to remove an AI label before you post.

Four steps, done on the exact file you are about to upload rather than an earlier version of it.

  1. 01Export the final versionFinish every crop, retouch and caption first. Any edit after cleaning can write new metadata.
  2. 02Pick the platform and drop the fileChoose where you are posting, then drop the photo or video. JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, DNG, MP4 and MOV are supported up to 200 MB.
  3. 03Read what it foundAn AI declaration, private details, or a clean file already. Each needs a different decision.
  4. 04Clean it and post the checked copyDownload the verified copy and upload that file, keeping your original separately.
06 · Honest limits

What an AI tag remover cannot do.

It cannot change a label on a post that is already up. The label belongs to the upload, so a cleaned file only matters as a new upload, and a platform's appeal route is the answer for a post you want to keep. It also cannot switch off a disclosure you chose yourself when posting; that is a setting on the post.

Nor does it touch anything in the pixels. A visible logo is part of the picture, and invisible watermarks such as Google's SynthID are woven into the image data rather than attached to it; the SynthID remover deals with that separately. Platforms also run their own detection and read what you disclose, so a clean file removes one input to the label, not every one. Where a platform's rules require you to disclose AI content, removing metadata does not change the rule.

07 · FAQ

AI Label Remover & Cleaner questions.

Is an AI label remover the same as a watermark remover?

No. A watermark remover edits the visible picture or the pixels. An AI label remover works on the metadata attached to the file, which is what platforms read to decide on a label.

Does removing the AI tags guarantee my post won't be labeled?

No. It removes the tags in the file, which is one signal. Platforms also use their own detectors and your disclosure, and those are outside any file.

Will cleaning lower the quality of my photo or video?

No. The media data is not re-encoded. Only the metadata blocks are removed, and the result is checked again before you download it.

What is the difference between removing and cleaning?

Removing targets the AI tags. Cleaning takes out the other information in the same blocks too: location, device, dates and editing software.
