What AI modified means on a Pin.
Pinterest marks images and videos it identifies as generated or edited with AI with the words “AI modified”, shown in the bottom-left corner when someone opens the Pin. It decides from three sources: metadata in the file, with IPTC named specifically, its own classifiers, and information from the person who posted.
Only the first of those is inside the file. That makes it the one a Pinterest AI label remover can deal with before you Pin, and the reason a clean file cannot promise an unlabeled one.

Pinterest is full of things that exist: a cake someone baked, a room someone decorated, a quilt, a painting. Those Pins are valuable because they are real, and an AI modified label on them tells people the opposite. It often comes from a small step, such as an AI background cleanup on a product shot or an upscale of an old photo, that wrote a declaration into the export.
Checking the final image shows whether it carries one, and cleaning removes it before the Pin exists.
IPTC digital source type, C2PA and the rest of the file.
The IPTC field Pinterest reads is the digital source type, stored in XMP. A generated image is declared “trainedAlgorithmicMedia”; a real photo edited with AI is “compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia”. C2PA Content Credentials can carry the same kind of claim in a signed record.
Cleaning removes those AI tags along with the rest of the supported metadata, including EXIF location, device and date fields and any embedded caption or creator name. The picture itself is not re-encoded. Keep your original, and put any credit that matters into the Pin's description.

How to appeal an AI modified label on an existing Pin.
A label on a Pin that is already published stays with that Pin, and cleaning a file does not change it. If the label is wrong, Pinterest's help center has an appeal: contact support and choose the option to appeal a Gen AI label. Having your original file and the export you pinned makes it easier to explain what was actually done to the image.
Promoted Pins show AI information differently, through the menu rather than the label on the close-up, and are managed through Pinterest's ads tools rather than the file.
Why AI modified can still appear after cleaning.
Pinterest's classifiers can label an image with no metadata at all, so removing the tags removes one input, not the others. Cleaning does not remove visible watermarks, signatures or text in the image, and there is no evidence that it changes how many saves or clicks a Pin gets.

Can I remove the AI modified label from a Pin that's already up?
Not by cleaning a file. Appeal the label through Pinterest's help center, or create a new Pin from a cleaned copy.
Why is my real photo labeled AI modified on Pinterest?
Usually because an AI step, such as background cleanup or upscaling, wrote a digital source type into the export. Pinterest's classifiers can also label images on their own.
Does turning off AI content in my feed remove labels?
No. That preference changes what you see. It doesn't change the metadata in your images or the labels on your Pins.
Does cleaning work for Pinterest video Pins?
Yes. MP4 and MOV exports up to 200 MB are supported, and the video is not re-encoded.
