Removing metadata from a file has no effect on either of them, and nothing about a post's history changes when you clean a copy of its image.

If you switched the disclosure on yourself, it can be switched off again on the post. If X applied the label, users report the setting appears greyed out, and the only way to a post without it is a new one made from a cleaned file. Cleaning a copy of the image changes nothing about the original post.

X is building its own detection, and a label decision can rest on more than metadata, so a clean file removes the tag rather than guaranteeing an unlabeled post. It does not remove a visible generator logo, text burned into a video or invisible pixel watermarks, and there is no evidence that cleaning changes reach on X.
