ChatGPT Image Editor
Edit a photo by describing what you want to change. Open GPTPhotoEditor to attach an image, replace a background, adjust a detail or explore a new visual direction with AI prompts. Keep the original, compare versions and refine the result in a dedicated photo workspace. Start with one clear request and specify the parts of the picture you want to preserve.

What is a ChatGPT image editor?
A ChatGPT image editor is an image-editing workflow where you describe a visual change in ordinary language. Instead of locating every adjustment in a toolbar, you can ask for a different background, a cleaner composition or a more natural portrait. The result is a generated revision, so it needs a visual check before you use it.
GPTCleanup connects this workflow to GPTPhotoEditor, our dedicated photo editing site. The editor offers image models and a workspace for reviewing successive versions. Clicking the editor card opens that site; you attach the photo there. This page does not upload an image, transfer a local file or edit it inside GPTCleanup.
The term ChatGPT describes the conversational editing style people search for. GPTPhotoEditor is an independent product, rather than an official ChatGPT page or an OpenAI endorsement. Choose the model available in the editor for your task and review its result on the image itself.
How to edit a photo with AI prompts
Open GPTPhotoEditor and attach a source photo. Use the clearest original you have: a low-resolution screenshot can hide the texture, lettering and edges you want to preserve. Keep an untouched copy so you can compare the edited image at the same size.
Describe the subject, the change and the limits in one request. For example, name the background you want replaced and say that the face, clothing and camera angle should stay the same. A request to make everything better gives the model fewer useful boundaries than a request to soften a distracting background.
Review the first version before adding another instruction. Check faces, hands, product labels and the outline of the subject. If something changed unintentionally, return to a suitable earlier version and make the next request narrower. A sequence of visible, deliberate edits is easier to assess than several unrelated changes in one prompt.
ChatGPT photo editor prompts for portraits and product photos
Photo editing often depends on details you do not want changed. In a portrait, that may be a person’s expression and features. In a product photo, it may be the shape, packaging and printed name. Put those constraints into the prompt and inspect them after generation; an instruction to preserve them is not a guarantee.
These are example prompts to adapt to your own source image. They describe an editing goal, not a recorded result or a promise that every model will produce the same output.
Replace a distracting background
Replace the busy background with a plain warm-grey studio backdrop. Keep the person’s face, hairstyle, clothing and pose unchanged. Match the existing light direction.
Compare the hairline, shoulders and face with the original. Look for an artificial edge or a shadow that no longer matches.
Clean up a product picture
Place this bottle on a neutral studio surface with a soft shadow. Preserve the bottle shape, cap, label and all printed wording. Keep the full product in frame.
Read every word on the label and compare the proportions. If the exact packaging changes, the image is unsuitable as an accurate product listing.
Make a restrained portrait edit
Reduce the harsh shine on the forehead and soften the background slightly. Keep natural skin texture, facial features and the original expression.
Check at full size for blurred skin, altered eyes or a different expression. Use another version if the edit changes the person’s identity.
ChatGPT picture editor for illustrations and social images
A picture editor can also help revise an illustration, a presentation visual or a social image. Start by stating what the picture is for. A banner needs room for a headline; a slide illustration needs a clear focal point; a square post needs a composition that survives a smaller display.
When changing an illustration, specify the visual elements to retain and the style you want to adjust. For example, keep the three objects and their positions while simplifying the background. Check that the revised image still communicates the intended relationship rather than merely looking more polished.
Treat lettering and diagrams carefully. Generative edits can alter a caption or introduce a plausible-looking symbol. For exact headings, prices, charts or technical labels, inspect the output character by character and add final text in a layout tool when precision matters.
JPG, JPEG, PNG and WebP image editing
JPG and JPEG are two extensions commonly used for the same image format. They are practical for photographs, but repeated lossy saves can damage fine detail. Begin with the best available original rather than repeatedly saving a preview from another app.
PNG is useful when sharp edges, screenshots or transparency matter. If your source contains a transparent background, check whether the chosen edit preserves the transparency you need. WebP is another common web image format accepted by the editor. Inspect edges and small text after an edit, whatever the input extension.
Renaming an unsupported file to .png does not convert it. If your camera produces HEIC or RAW, export a supported image from your normal photo application before attaching it. Check the download options in the editor when saving; a JPG input does not mean every generated output will use that same format.
Compare image versions before downloading
Decide what success means before choosing a final version. For a portrait, compare likeness and natural texture. For a product photo, compare physical details and colour. For a presentation image, check whether the subject remains readable at the actual slide size.
Use the editor’s version history to compare alternatives and continue from the most useful one. A more dramatic edit is not automatically a better edit. Reject changes that invent product features, alter a person unintentionally or make text unreadable. Save the result only after checking the parts that matter to its intended use.
ChatGPT Image Editor FAQ
Where do I upload a photo for editing?
Click the editor card to open gptphotoeditor.com, then attach your image in GPTPhotoEditor. There is no image upload on this GPTCleanup page, and your local files are not transferred by the link.
Are an image editor, photo editor and picture editor the same tool here?
Yes. On this page those phrases describe the same GPTPhotoEditor workflow. A photo usually means a camera image; picture and image can also include illustrations, graphics and other visuals.
Can I change a photo background with a prompt?
You can request a replacement background in GPTPhotoEditor. Describe the new setting and the parts to preserve, then inspect the subject edges, lighting and any unintended changes before using the result.
Can I edit JPG, PNG and WebP images?
GPTPhotoEditor accepts JPEG, PNG and WebP image inputs. Use a clear source and check the editor’s current attachment and download controls for the options available to your file.
Will the editor keep faces and text exactly the same?
A preservation instruction helps define the task, but generative image editing can still change details. Compare faces, labels, logos and small text with the original before accepting an edited image.
Is this an official ChatGPT image editor?
No. GPTCleanup and GPTPhotoEditor are independent products. ChatGPT image editor describes the conversational image-editing workflow; it does not imply an OpenAI partnership or access through a ChatGPT subscription.
Do I need separate access to GPTPhotoEditor?
Check the account, model and usage options shown on GPTPhotoEditor. The referral link does not grant editing credits or make a GPTCleanup subscription a subscription to the photo editor.
