AI Sentence Rewriter

For the sentence you have rewritten four times and still do not like. Almost always it is one of five things: it is carrying two ideas, the subject arrives too late, the point is sitting in the middle where readers pass over it, a verb has been turned into a noun, or it is wrapped in qualifiers doing no work. Naming which one makes the fix obvious, and the fix is usually shorter than what you started with.

01 · Diagnosis

Five reasons a sentence will not come right.

Worth identifying before rewriting, because each has a different fix and rewording addresses none of them.

  • It is carrying two ideasThe most common cause by a distance, and the easiest to fix once you see it. A sentence with a main clause, a subordinate clause and a trailing observation is asking the reader to hold three things while working out how they relate. Usually one of them is a separate sentence and the piece improves the moment you let it be one.
  • The subject arrives too lateEnglish readers hold everything before the verb in suspense. Open with three qualifying phrases and by the time the subject appears the reader has been carrying grammar rather than meaning. Moving the subject and verb near the front usually fixes a sentence that felt heavy without anybody being able to say why.
  • The important part is in the middleThe end of a sentence is its most emphatic position and the start is second. Anything buried between them gets read past. If the point of a sentence is the third of five clauses, no amount of rewording will make it land — it has to move.
  • The verb has been turned into a nounMade an assessment of instead of assessed. Provided clarification regarding instead of explained. This is the single most reliable way to make a sentence longer and duller, and reversing it — finding the buried verb and using it — often removes a third of the words with no loss.
  • Qualifiers are doing no workIt could potentially be argued that this may in some cases suggest. Four hedges on one claim. Test each: if removing it would make the sentence false, it is precision and it stays. If not, it was a reflex. Most sentences that feel weak are carrying two or three of these.
02 · On length

Short sentences are not the goal, and the advice that says so is harmful.

“Keep your sentences short” is the most repeated piece of writing advice there is, and following it literally produces prose that is easy to read and exhausting to follow.

Length is a symptom, not the problem. A long sentence carrying one idea, with its subordination doing genuine work, is a pleasure. A long sentence carrying three ideas is hard going. Chopping the second one at its commas produces three short sentences that still contain three unrelated ideas, now with the connections between them deleted.

What actually tires a reader is uniformity. Prose where every sentence is the same length — long or short — is the flat rhythm that reads as machine-made. Variation is what makes writing comfortable, which means the goal is a mix rather than a target.

And readability formulas encourage exactly the wrong edit. Flesch and Flesch Kincaid count sentence length and syllables, so chopping at commas improves any score while making the writing worse. If you are editing to a readability number, this is the trap it sets.

So: split a sentence when it is carrying more than one idea, not when it passes a word count. Those two rules disagree more often than you would expect.

03 · By assistant

Sentences from Claude, DeepSeek, Grok, LLaMA and Perplexity.

Each produces a characteristic failure, which means the diagnosis is usually the same one within a draft.

Claude sentence rewriter

The most common source of sentences that need this specifically.

Claude's characteristic sentence is a claim, a clause narrowing it, and a clause admitting an exception — carefully built and carrying more than one reader can comfortably hold. Its drafts are where the two-ideas diagnosis above applies most often, and splitting is usually the whole fix.

It is also the best of the assistants at rewriting a sentence you give it, because it preserves meaning faithfully. Ask it to shorten rather than to improve, or you get the same sentence with another qualification attached.

DeepSeek sentence rewriter

Nominalisation is the pattern to look for.

Its technical register produces exactly the construction described above: verbs turned into nouns, then propped up with a weak verb. Performed an optimisation of, carried out an evaluation. Finding the real verb inside each and using it directly cuts length substantially and reads better in any register.

The precision underneath is usually sound, so this is genuinely an editing job rather than a rewrite. The meaning survives the compression.

Grok sentence rewriter

Its sentences are already short, so the problem is elsewhere.

Conversational writing produces naturally direct sentences, which means Grok drafts rarely need untangling. What they need is register — a sentence that is clear and too casual for the document it is in.

Raising a register sentence by sentence is a different operation from clarifying one, and it usually means finding a more formal construction that keeps the directness rather than adding formality on top.

LLaMA sentence rewriter

Where sentences are genuinely broken rather than merely heavy.

LLaMA is weights rather than a product, so output depends on the deployment. Smaller ones produce sentences that start one construction and finish another, lose agreement across a long clause, or trail off without resolving.

Those are errors rather than style, so the grammar checker is often the better first pass. Rewriting a broken sentence for elegance before fixing what is wrong with it wastes the effort.

Perplexity sentence rewriter

Sentences built around a citation that is no longer there.

Its output is shaped to hold a bracket: a claim, an attributing clause, a qualification positioning the source. Remove the citation, as people do before pasting, and the scaffolding remains — a sentence deferring to an authority it never names.

The rewrite is to decide whether the attribution is coming back. If it is, keep the shape. If not, state the claim in your own voice and drop the clause that was holding a space for a reference.

If several sentences are individually fine and do not flow into each other, that is cohesion rather than construction: the AI paragraph rewriter works on how sentences connect and whether a paragraph carries one idea. If the whole piece has its points in the wrong order, the AI essay rewriter works at document level. And if you want the same meaning expressed differently across a passage, that is the AI paraphraser.

If a sentence is actually wrong rather than awkward, the AI grammar checker is the right first pass — rewriting a broken sentence for elegance before fixing what is wrong with it wastes the effort. And if the prose is correct throughout and simply flat, that is rhythm across a document, which the AI humanizer handles.

05 · FAQ

Sentence rewriter questions.

What is the difference between a sentence rewriter and a paraphraser?

Scope, and it changes what each is good at. A paraphraser takes a passage and expresses the same meaning differently across all of it. This works on one sentence at a time, which is what you want when a specific sentence will not come right and everything around it is fine.

Why will one sentence not come right?

Usually because it is carrying two ideas rather than one, which is the first diagnosis above. Other common causes are the subject arriving too late, the important part sitting in the middle where readers pass over it, and verbs turned into nouns. Naming which one it is makes the fix obvious.

Should long sentences always be split?

No, and the advice to keep sentences short is one of the more damaging simplifications in writing guidance. A long sentence carrying one idea with proper subordination is a pleasure to read. A short one that is the wreckage of a longer thought is not. Length is a symptom rather than the problem.

Will it change my meaning?

It should not. Claims, figures, names and quoted material come through as written, and what changes is construction, order and length. Read the result against your original when something depends on the sentence, because compressing a sentence is exactly where a qualification can quietly disappear.

Where should the important part of a sentence go?

At the end, which is the most emphatic position in English, or at the start, which is second. Anything in the middle gets read past. If the point of your sentence is buried between two clauses, rewording will not save it — the point has to move.

Can it rewrite sentences from Claude, DeepSeek or Grok?

Yes, and the sections above cover what each produces. Claude writes the sentences that most often need splitting; DeepSeek's need their buried verbs recovered; Grok's are already direct and often need their register raised instead, which is a different job.

What is nominalisation?

Turning a verb into a noun and then needing a weaker verb to carry it: made a decision instead of decided, provided an explanation instead of explained. It is the most reliable way to make a sentence longer and flatter, and reversing it often removes a third of the words with nothing lost.

Does rewriting sentences change an AI detection score?

It can move one and not predictably, and it may go up. Making sentences clearer and more consistent makes prose more regular, and regularity is what detectors measure. Editing for a reader and editing for a score frequently pull in opposite directions.

How many times should I rewrite one sentence?

Once or twice. If a sentence resists three attempts, the problem is usually not the sentence — it is that you have not decided what you think, and the sentence is honestly reflecting that. Working out the idea is faster than continuing to reword the confusion.

Is my text stored?

The document is attached to your account so you can return to it, and you can delete it whenever you like. It is not used to train anything.
